Instructors
Master Instructor, Burton Maben, a certified Ninth Degree Black Belt in Okinawa Isshinryu Karate, and Okinawa Weaponary (Kobudo), prides himself in teaching all his students life skills through the practice of Karate. Sensei Maben’s philosophy of teaching and training often are at odds with the popular portrayal of martial arts as violent and antagonistic. He states “Karate’s training method and moral philosophy actually prepares a defender to avoid fighting, in fact the karate quality of calmness and confidence is the antithesis of aggression and inhumanity.”
Nancy Maben, 4th Degree Black Belt and Burton’s wife and co-founder of the school believes that their philosophy and training methods have endeared him with many families on the West Bank. “We opened the school in Belle Chasse in May 2001 with less than 10 students and in less than two years we have grown to over 150 families training and supporting this organization.”
